Steve,

I think it's a great time -- but a tricky time -- for Ubuntu. Move forward too fast into the consumer space and you will surely disappoint some/many users. Do too little, and you leave the door open for other Linux variants.

Overall, I like the balance Canonical and Dell are striking. They aren't hyping Ubuntu. And they're letting truly frustrated Windows users discover Ubuntu on their own -- at least for now, that's a good thing.

As more college kids give it a try, I bet the market continues to move Ubuntu's way. Even if Linux only gets 5 percent of the desktop, that's progress. And freedom. And customer choice!

Sorry I did not reply to your question sooner (blush). Is there some way to get this system to email me when questions come up? I have so many active rss feeds, it is getting hard to track them all.

Steve,

Good to hear from you. How long have you been doing your blog? In addition to playing a role on this Web site, my company (http://microcast.biz) has built two successful businesses around blogs (http://muniwireless.com and http://techiqmag.com).

Would love to hear more about what you're up to.
