So far so good with my system. I've been on it about a week. Boots fast. Loads applications fast. Simple yser interface. Ubuntu on Dell is the second best PC I've ever owned. Mac OS X running on MacBook Pro is still my favorite system.
A a real DELL Ubunutu user in the flesh. We need screen shots! From what I have heard, the UI is tweaked from the vanilla.
Also - I'm no big Mac fan (don't hate either - the UI gives me a head-ache) so I would be very interested indeed in a quick comparison from someone who like the Mac but uses Ubuntu as well.
I'm at work at the moment on my PowerBook (love it). When I'm home tonight I will send you some Ubuntu screen shots from my Dell PC. By the way, I'm not sure if/how Dell tweaked the interface but I'll be interested in your feedback. Screen shots tonight.
I bought an XPS 410n, maxed out. I have had it running for about 4-5 weeks now. Only real complaint is that shutting down often hangs the entire pc, have to power off with power button.
I don't like how Dell partitioned the drive, but aside from that I have not found any "fingerprints" from Dell. It came loaded with 7.04 and everything works! No problems getting the nvidia card to work correctly, and no sound issues.
As soon as Gutsy gets out of beta I am going to reload the pc, partition to my liking and add an extra 500 GB SATA drive.
I mainly bought from Dell to show them support for offering Ubuntu on thier machines!
