anyone out there know how can get aol messenger to work with ubuntu
i know you can but i need a some help

There is are several open source chat clients that can use the AIM protocol. I have always used Gaim, which has recently been renamed to Pidgin (AOL did not like them using Gaim). There are others, but Pidgin is simple and does the job.
